Master Encounter Tables

Use of the Encounter Tables

The GM should deter­mine the group’s loca­tion, and then roll on the appro­priate column for a pos­sible encoun­ter. The period of time cove­red by an encoun­ter roll is either the Time given on the table or the time it takes the group to cover the Dis­tance given, whi­che­ver is the smal­ler. If an encoun­ter roll is less than or equal to the Chance of encoun­ter given in the table, a second roll of (I –I00) is made to deter­mine the nature of the encoun­ter.

An encoun­ter does not always require a fight or hos­tile acti­vity ; even when the being or thing encoun­te­red is dan­ge­rous, the PCs might use eva­sion or pla­ca­ting tac­tics suc­cess­fully with proper action or good maneu­ver rolls. This table gives the GM only a guide for encoun­ters with unu­sual or poten­tially inter­es­ting events/​sites
crea­tures.

Some encoun­ters may be dependent on the season, time of day, or loca­tion. The GM should roll again if the encoun­ter is inap­pro­priate.
